Getting started

What is Secret Kitchens?

A service that builds and hosts a one-page website for independent home kitchens, food trucks and market stalls, with a live menu, an order form and a dashboard to run it from. Each kitchen is its own business and the seller of what it makes. We host the page and take no commission.

How long does it take to get a page?

We reply within a couple of days to confirm your details, then build a draft in two to four days. After that it depends on how quickly you approve the draft or ask for changes. Getting started walks through it.

Do I need a card to register?

No. Registration is free. You receive a payment link only when your page goes live, and every plan starts with a 30-day free trial from then.

I signed in but my dashboard says you are building my page. Why?

Your login exists but your page is not live yet, so there is nothing to attach it to. The screen becomes your full dashboard the moment your page goes live, and we email you when it does. Your first sign-in.

I run a food truck or market stall. Is this for me?

Yes. The Truck & Stall plan adds pickup time slots with caps, a one-tap sold-out board and card checkout, and any truck or stall gets a week-by-week Where to find us calendar in place of fixed hours. The four plans.

Plans & billing

What do the plans cost?

Essential AUD 20 a month, Professional AUD 35, Premium AUD 65, Truck & Stall AUD 99. The card checkout add-on is AUD 25 a month on Professional and Premium and included on Truck & Stall. Plans and billing.

What is the difference between the plans?

The item limit and which dashboard tools are on: packs, tips, delivery fee and windows from Professional; categories, closed-until and pickup times from Premium; order caps, the sold-out board and built-in checkout on Truck & Stall. Feature by feature has the full table.

How many menu items can I have?

20 on Essential, 40 on Professional, 60 on Premium and Truck & Stall. Hidden items count, and each size or flavour of a meal counts as one item. Menu item limits.

What is the card checkout add-on?

A separate AUD 25 a month subscription on Professional and Premium that lets customers pay by card on your page, straight into your own Stripe account, with paid orders landing in your dashboard. It is included on Truck & Stall and not available on Essential. Card checkout add-on.

Do you take commission?

No, on any plan, with or without card checkout. Stripe’s standard fees apply to card payments and are shown in your Stripe dashboard. We add nothing on top.

When does billing start?

When your page goes live you receive a payment link and a 30-day free trial starts. Essential and Professional then bill monthly. Premium and Truck & Stall bill one payment for the first three months after the trial, then monthly. Cancel during the trial and you pay nothing. Billing and cancelling.

How do I change plans?

Email info@secret-kitchens.com. Changes apply from your next billing cycle. Moving down hides tools but deletes nothing. Changing plans.

What happens to my menu if I move to a smaller plan?

Every item stays and can still be edited, hidden or shown. You cannot add more until you are under the new limit. Categories and packs you set are kept but stop showing until you move up again.

How do I cancel?

Any time, with no exit fees, through Stripe’s billing portal or by emailing us. On Premium and Truck & Stall the prepaid first quarter is not refunded. Your page comes down, or we hand you the files. Billing and cancelling.

Where are my invoices?

With Stripe. Receipts arrive by email from Stripe, and your card, invoices and subscription are managed at billing.stripe.com using the email your plan is under. The dashboard shows only which plan you are on.

Your page

How do I change my kitchen name or suburb?

Email info@secret-kitchens.com from the address you registered with. Name, suburb, plan and your orders inbox are set by us so a stray edit can never rename a kitchen or reroute its orders. Changes only we can make.

How do I change where my orders are emailed?

Email us. The Public contact email field in your Profile section is what customers see on your page and does not change where orders go.

How long do changes take to show on my page?

Usually within a minute or two. Your page is allowed to keep a copy of your profile and menu for up to a minute so it loads fast, so wait a minute and reload before assuming a save failed. The message beside the Save button is the reliable signal. How fast changes show.

How do I close for a holiday?

On Premium and Truck & Stall, set Closed until in the Right now card and your page shows CLOSED until that date, then reopens by itself. On other plans, add a pinned notice, put the dates in your ordering notes, and hide any items you will not be making. Closed until.

How do notices work?

A notice is a headline, optional detail, an optional event date and a required disappears-after date. It shows at the top of your page until that date, or until you delete it if pinned. Your page shows up to five. Noticeboard.

What is the Where to find us calendar?

For trucks and stalls, a week-by-week plan, this week plus three ahead, with one line per day such as a market name and hours. It replaces fixed opening hours on your page. Saved a week at a time from the Profile section. Where to find us.

Orders & pickup

Why do some orders come by email and some appear in my dashboard?

Order requests are email only: the customer has not paid, and you reply to confirm. Paid orders exist once card checkout is live, and those are recorded in your dashboard as well as emailed. Two kinds of order.

What does Done do?

Marks a paid order complete and moves it from My Orders to History. Mark all complete does every open order at once. It sends nothing to the customer. My Orders.

What does Cancel order do?

Labels the order cancelled and moves it to History. It does not refund the customer or email them. Agree the cancellation with the customer first and refund from your Stripe dashboard if they paid. Cancelling an order.

What is Print label?

A one-sticker print of the order, 54 by 101 mm, with the customer’s name, pickup time or delivery address, the items without prices, and their phone number. It uses your device’s normal print dialog and works from a phone. History keeps it for reprints.

How do pickup times work?

Trucks and stalls plan them per day in the Where to find us calendar: open a day, press Pre-orders, make a run of times, cap any of them. Customers pick one of your planned dates, then a time. Home kitchens on Premium type times per weekday in the Pre-orders card instead. Each paid order arrives with its time. They need live card checkout. Pickup times and delivery windows.

What is Max orders per slot?

A cap on paid orders per time. It counts orders, not meals. A full time stops being offered. The Pre-orders card holds your default; trucks and stalls can set a different number on any day or any single time in the calendar. Truck & Stall only. Max orders per slot.

How far ahead can customers order?

Trucks and stalls: as far ahead as you have planned days in the calendar, and each time closes when it starts unless you set an earlier Orders close at. Home kitchens: set How far ahead can people order? in the Pre-orders card, 0 or blank is today only, up to 30 days. How far ahead people can order.

How do I export my orders?

Set the From and To dates above the order tabs, press Apply, then Export CSV. The spreadsheet opens in Excel or Google Sheets. The dashboard keeps 90 days of orders, so export monthly if you want older records. Export CSV.

Payments & payouts

Where does the money go when a customer pays by card?

Into your own Stripe account, charged in your name, and paid out to your bank on Stripe’s schedule. Secret Kitchens is not in the middle of the payment and takes no commission. Where the money goes.

How do I set up card payments?

Once checkout is switched on for your kitchen, press Set up card payments in the Payments section and complete Stripe’s own signup, about five to ten minutes with your ID and bank details. The status pill tells you what is left. Setting up card payments.

What fees apply?

Stripe’s standard fees apply to each card payment and are shown in your Stripe dashboard. Secret Kitchens charges only your plan and, on Professional and Premium, the card checkout add-on. No commission. Fees and payouts.

How do refunds work?

The kitchen refunds from its own Stripe dashboard back to the customer’s card, usually within five to ten business days. Orders paid in person are refunded the same way they were paid. Secret Kitchens never holds the money so cannot refund on anyone’s behalf. Refunds and cancellations covers what customers can expect.

What are the stock problem and slot full warnings?

Two customers paid at the same moment for the last of an item, or for the last place in a pickup time. Both have paid and both orders are recorded. Fit them in, agree an alternative, or refund from Stripe today. Refunds.

How does Tip the Cook work?

Paste a live Stripe payment link from your own Stripe account into the Tip the Cook card and a button appears on your page. Tips go straight to you. Professional and above, no card checkout needed. Tip the Cook.

Can I offer delivery, and can I charge for it?

Any plan can offer delivery with a minimum order and a list of postcodes. A delivery fee you set yourself is Professional and above, and is added at card checkout. Delivery settings.

For customers

How do I order from a kitchen?

Add items with the plus buttons on the menu, fill in your details and a date in the order form, then press the button at the bottom. It says either Send order request or Pay & place order. Ordering from a kitchen.

Is my order confirmed when I send a request?

No. A request tells the kitchen what you want. They reply to confirm they can make it and to arrange payment. Your confirmation email says so. An order paid by card is confirmed the moment the payment goes through. Two ways to order.

How do I pay?

If the page has Pay & place order, by card on a secure Stripe page. Otherwise the kitchen arranges payment with you when it confirms, by whatever its Good to know section lists: cash, bank transfer, PayID or a card reader at pickup.

Can I get it delivered?

Only if the kitchen offers it, in which case the order form has a Delivery option and asks for your address. Kitchens set their own area, minimum and fee, stated on the page. Pickup and delivery.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Contact the kitchen as early as you can, by replying to your confirmation email or calling the number on their page. Food is made to order, so the sooner the better. Changing or cancelling.

I have a problem with my food. Who do I contact?

The kitchen, as soon as possible and ideally the same day, with photos. They are the seller and can replace, fix or refund. Your Australian Consumer Law rights apply regardless of any kitchen policy. Refunds and cancellations.

How do I sign in?

At secret-kitchens.com/dashboard/login/, with the email and password you created on the registration thank-you page. Signing in and out.

How do I change my password?

Dashboard › Settings › Change password. Type it twice and save. You stay signed in.
